Best Budget!
The Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars are a pretty good option for those on a budget. They are compact and lightweight with decent optics. The images are clear and bright, the body construction is waterproof and fog-proof.
What I Like
  • Bright & Sharp Images in Good Light Conditions
  • Durable Polycarbonate Body
  • NBR Long Life Rubber Armoring
  • Fog-proof and Waterproof
  • Really Compact & Lightweight
What I Don’t
  • Poor Image Quality in Low Light Conditions
  • Not Suitable for Eyeglass Wearers
  • Poor Strap Quality

For just a little over 100 bucks you get a decent pair of binoculars that you can throw in your backpack or just let it hang around your neck when on nature walks.

The field of view at 1,000 yards is only 302 feet, which is certainly quite low. In real life this is somewhat compensated by using the smooth center focusing wheel to quickly focus on the object of interest.

The Fast Close-Focus, which allows you to keep all images sharp and clear even as close as 11 feet is acceptable, but certainly not the greatest.

The Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars are perfect for travel. Take them on a cruise, hike or safari without worrying about the weight or risk of damaging or losing expensive equipment.

Nice Features
  • High-Contrast Optics System
  • UV Coated Lens
  • Fast Close-Focus for Sharp and Clear Images
  • Field of view at 1,000 yards: 302 feet
  • 4.7 x 1.8 x 4.6 inches
  • Weighs just 10.5 oz

FAQ: Best Lightweight Binoculars

What makes binoculars lightweight?

Manufacturers use a combination of smaller objective lenses and lighter construction materials to make binoculars lightweight.

  1. Smaller objective lenses: Binoculars with smaller lenses (e.g., 32mm vs. 42mm) weigh less.
  2. Lighter materials: Using plastic or polycarbonate instead of metal for the chassis and components can significantly reduce weight.

Smaller lenses and lighter materials can mean lower image quality and durability but reputed manufacturers compensate this by using very high quality optics.

How much should best lightweight binoculars weigh?

According to some, best lightweight binoculars should weigh less than 24 oz. In my above roundup of 7 best lightweight binoculars, the lightest weighs 10.5 oz and the heaviest weighs 19.2 oz.

For truly pocketable options, try shopping binoculars with weights around 6-8 oz, but expect smaller objective lenses and potentially lower image quality.

For comfortable all-day carrying and decent image quality, 10-14 oz offers a good balance. However, be prepared to go up to 20 oz if you need to get really clear and sharp images.

Are 8×25 and 10×25 binoculars any good?

The relatively small optical lens diameter can result in lower light gathering and as such poorer image quality, especially at dawn and dusk. However, reputed manufacturers will compensate this by using advanced optics technology and glass.

As you can see in my roundup of 7 best lightweight binoculars, the price ranges from a little over $100 to nearly $900. Certainly, the ultimate binocular quality is a function of the price and the brand name.

So the answer to the question, Are 8×25 and 10×25 binoculars any good? depends on the intended use and your budget.
