Excellent Optical Performance

Last year I decided to spend around 10 days hiking various sections of the Appalachian Trail around Springer Mountain. I knew this would be a tough one so I wanted to keep my backpack as light as possible.

Could I forego my binoculars? Of course not! So I borrowed Hawke Frontier HD X 8×32 Binoculars belonging to a buddy of mine. Not only are they compact and lightweight, I would get an opportunity to do a proper, in-depth review too!

During my 10-day hike on the Appalachian Trail with the borrowed Hawke Frontier HD X 8×32 Binoculars, I was thoroughly impressed with their optical performance. The image quality and field of view were remarkable, providing a bright and clear view with lots of detail in the center of the wide field.

While there was some softening around the periphery, it didn’t detract significantly, especially considering the price point. The colors appeared neutral with good contrast, and chromatic aberration was minimal, noticeable only in high-contrast scenes.

The binoculars even excelled in low-light conditions, thanks to the fully multi-coated lenses and special protective coating for water repellency.

I found that the Hawke Frontier HD X 8×32 Binoculars offer stunning high-definition viewing, with dielectric coated prisms ensuring optimal light transmission. Despite lacking ED glass, the brightness and contrast were notably impressive.

The compact design, sturdy build, and user-friendly features, such as twist-up eyecups and a smooth focus wheel, contributed to an excellent overall experience.

Look & Feel

I have reviewed the Hawke Frontier ED X 8×32 Binoculars earlier and I found that the Hawke Frontier HD X 8×32 Binoculars are pretty much the same when it comes to the look and feel.

Similar to the ED X range, these binoculars are lightweight yet solid, with a confident, durable feel. I had a good grip on the HD X binoculars, even with thick gloves on, thanks to the textured rubber coating on the magnesium alloy body.

The compact, closed-bridge roof prism design, sturdy rubber armoring, and well-balanced construction make for a comfortable and secure hold.

Size & Weight

As mentioned earlier, I had chosen to take the Hawke Frontier HD X 8×32 Binoculars on my 10 days hiking trip, mainly to keep my backpack as light as possible. I was not disappointed.

The Hawke Frontier HD X 8×32 Binoculars are smaller than most 32mm binoculars and similar in size to popular semi-compact 30mm models. Moreover, they weigh just 19 ounces.

The magnesium-alloy chassis ensures a solid yet remarkably light build. I never felt weighed down by them during my entire trip.

Bottom Line

In summary, the Hawke Frontier HD X 8×32 Binoculars are an excellent choice for nature enthusiasts and travelers seeking a lightweight yet durable option. During my Appalachian Trail hike, these binoculars impressed with exceptional optical performance, delivering bright and clear views with minimal weight.

The compact design, magnesium alloy construction, and user-friendly features make them ideal for various outdoor activities. With a reputation for quality from Hawke Sport Optics, these binoculars are not only reliable but also add a touch of style with their attractive green color.
