One of the standout features of these binoculars is their crystal-clear optics. You’ll be able to enjoy incredibly sharp and detailed images, giving you a clear view of your surroundings. Additionally, the Steiner Predator Series Hunting Binoculars are designed with convenience and durability in mind. They have a compact and lightweight design, making them easy to carry and use for extended periods of time. The binoculars come with a Steiner Heritage Warranty, providing you with peace of mind that they are built to last.

Overall, the Steiner Predator Series Hunting Binoculars, 10×42 Auto Focus, are a high-tech and reliable choice for any hunting expedition. With these binoculars in your arsenal, you’ll be able to enhance your hunting experience and improve your chances of success.

Pretty Good Optics

I am not a hunter, but I do enjoy joining my friends on their hunting trips. In addition to the call of the wild and the company of friends around a campfire, I enjoy trying out their binoculars.

On a recent hunting trip in Flathead National Forest, Montana I got to try out the Steiner 10×42 Auto Focus Predator Binoculars. The optics are great for hunting, but are pretty good for other hobbies such as bird watching and whale watching too.

Enhanced Vision for Hunting
  • Color Adjusted Transmission (CAT) technology
  • High-tech binoculars
  • Prey in focus at any speed, any distance
  • Crystal-clear optics

Colors pop: Steiner’s special CAT coatings boost orange and brown hues, making deer practically glow amidst foliage. It’s subtle, but hunters will adore it. On the flip side, colors aren’t always true-to-life, so bird watchers may be a bit disappointed.

Bright even in low light: The Steiner 10×42 Auto Focus Predator Binoculars are able to pick out deer and birds alike, even in low light conditions of dusk.

Razor-sharp from edge to edge: No image distortions or softening here. These binoculars deliver stunning clarity across the entire field of view.

Image contrast: The lenses are fully multi-coated for excellent contrast and reduced reflections, and boast top-notch German glass for superior performance.

Look & Feel

The Steiner 10×42 Auto Focus Predator Binoculars are a pleasure to hold. The open-bridge design makes them feel light and balanced, perfect for long days of scouting. Unlike other binoculars with a center focus wheel that constantly needs adjusting, these have individual eyepiece adjustments, which I found much more convenient.

The green coatings on the lenses are definitely unique, and the overall feel is rugged and durable. They’re not the lightest binoculars out there, but they’re not heavy either, and the comfortable grip makes them easy to carry for extended periods.

Size & Weight

At 30.3 ounces the Steiner 10×42 Auto Focus Predator Binoculars are certainly on the heavier side. The open-bridge design helps with this, and the Makrolon polycarbonate construction makes them feel sturdy. Personally, I am not a fan of Porro prism binoculars, so that’s a negative for me.

They’re weatherproof and shockproof, so you can take them anywhere without worry. Use them for hunting in inclement weather or whale watching when they are likely to get a fair amount exposure to moisture.

Most hunters, I talked to find it comfortable to hold, easy to use, and built to last. They accept that they’re not the lightest option on the market, but their durability and performance make up for it. I must admit the eye cups are comfortable, and the overall construction feels solid and well-made.

Auto Focus and Porro Prism

One thing to note is that the Steiner 10×42 Auto Focus Predator Binoculars take a bit of adjustment if you’re used to roof prisms and center focus wheels. The Auto Focus function works exactly as described, but it requires some getting used to. Rather than manually adjusting the focus, you simply let your eyes do the work as you look around. It might feel odd at first, but it becomes second nature quickly.

Additionally, if you’re more accustomed to roof prism binoculars, the Porro prism design of these Steiner binoculars may take some adjustment. However, hunters on the Montana trip insist the tradeoff is worth it. The Porro prism design provides clearer images with wider fields of view. These binoculars are slightly larger, but the open frame design ensures they are still comfortable to carry.

Bottom Line

In conclusion, the Steiner 10×42 Auto Focus Predator Binoculars are a fantastic choice for hunters, without a shadow of doubt. The level of detail, the superb design, and the improved lens covers make them a joy to use. If you are not going to use them for hunting, you will still find them quite useful but I would recommend looking at other options, better suited to your interests.

Choosing the Perfect Pair of Binoculars: A Buyer’s Guide

When it comes to selecting the perfect pair of binoculars, there are a few key factors to consider. Firstly, determine the purpose for which you will be using them.

Are you an avid birdwatcher, a wildlife enthusiast, or perhaps a keen traveler? This will help determine the appropriate magnification and objective lens size for your needs.

Secondly, consider the binoculars’ weight and size, as you’ll want something comfortable to carry if you are constantly on the move. Weight is also important if you need to hold the binoculars for extended periods such as in wildlife research.

Additionally, it’s important to assess the optical quality, such as lens coatings and prism type, for optimal clarity and brightness. Lastly, don’t forget to set a budget and compare different models within your price range.

Whenever possible, try to test the binoculars on your shortlist before making a purchase. Make sure they feel comfortable in your hands and provide a clear and sharp image. Read reliable reviews on sites like Binocular Buzz.

Here are a few things to check out before selecting the perfect binoculars to suit your needs and enhance your outdoor experience!

  • Magnification: Steiner Predator Binoculars typically come in various magnification options. Consider your specific needs and the activities you plan to use the binoculars for. Higher magnification can provide detailed views, but it may also reduce stability and field of view
  • Objective Lens Diameter: The size of the objective lens affects the amount of light that enters the binoculars. A larger diameter allows for more light transmission, resulting in brighter images. Steiner Predator Binoculars usually offer different options, so choose one that suits your intended use
  • Lens Coating: Look for binoculars with fully multi-coated lenses. This means that multiple layers of anti-reflective coatings are applied to the lens surfaces. This coating improves light transmission, color fidelity, and overall image quality
  • Focus System: Ensure that the binoculars have a user-friendly and precise focus system. Steiner Predator Binoculars often feature a smooth central focus knob that allows for swift adjustments. Some models may also have a separate diopter adjustment for individual eye focusing
  • Durability: Steiner is renowned for its rugged and durable binoculars. Look for features such as rubber armoring, waterproofing, and fog-proofing. These qualities will ensure that your binoculars can withstand various weather conditions and accidental drops
  • Eye Relief: Eye relief refers to the distance between your eyes and the binoculars’ eyepiece. It is essential, especially for eyeglass wearers, as it allows for comfortable viewing without straining your eyes. Steiner Predator Binoculars usually offer generous eye relief
  • Ergonomics: Consider the overall design and comfort of the binoculars. Look for features like a lightweight body, ergonomic grip, and easy-to-use controls. These factors will enhance your overall experience and reduce fatigue during prolonged use
  • Warranty and Customer Support: Check the warranty coverage for the binoculars, as Steiner usually offers reliable warranties. Additionally, consider the reputation of the brand’s customer support to ensure you have assistance if any issues arise

The Steiner 10×42 Auto Focus Predator Binoculars bring your prey into sharp focus with crisp clarity and precision. They are your perfect companion for an immersive and successful hunting experience.
