A Good Budget Option

8.5

The Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars are a pretty good option for those on a budget. They are compact and lightweight with decent optics. The images are clear and bright, the body construction is waterproof and fog-proof. They are perfect for travel. Take them on a cruise, hike or safari without worrying about the weight or risk of damaging or losing expensive equipment.

What I Like What I Don’t
  • Really Compact & Lightweight (Just 10.5 oz)
  • Durable Polycarbonate Body
  • NBR Long Life Rubber Armoring
  • Fog-proof and Waterproof
  • Bright & Sharp Images in Good Light Conditions
  • Poor Image Quality in Low Light Conditions
  • Not Suitable for Eyeglass Wearers
  • Poor Strap Quality

The Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars are a fantastic option for travel and offer a bang for your buck. For just a little over 100 bucks you get a decent pair of binoculars that you can throw in your backpack or just let it hang around your neck when on nature walks.

Of course, the optics are nothing to write home about, but considering the low price, they are surprisingly good. Advanced UV Coatings and high contrast lenses reduce glare, provide eye protection and good optical performance, especially around water and unshaded areas such as savannahs or deserts.

The field of view at 1,000 yards is only 302 feet, which is certainly quite low. In real life this is somewhat compensated by using the smooth center focusing wheel to quickly focus on the object of interest. The Fast Close-Focus, which allows you to keep all images sharp and clear even as close as 11 feet is acceptable, but certainly not the greatest.

The Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars are waterproof and fog-proof, making them perfect for use in a range of locations and weather conditions. Whether you’re hiking, traveling or bird watching, these binoculars will withstand the elements and be your trusted companions.

Measuring at just 4.7 x 1.8 x 4.6 inches and weighing only 10.5 ounces, the Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars are incredibly compact and lightweight. They are easy to carry around and won’t weigh you down.

Enhanced Optical Performance
  • High-Contrast Optics System
  • UV Coated Lens
  • Fast Close-Focus for Sharp and Clear Images
  • Field of view at 1,000 yards: 302 feet
  • Smooth Focus Wheel

On the safari trip to Kruger National Park, where I struck a friendship with Ursula and got a chance to try out her Maven C1 8×42 Binoculars, I also got to get the observations of Alex, her 15 year old son, about his new Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars.

Good Optics & Image Quality

Alex marveled at the 10x magnification, which brought distant objects closer without sacrificing image stability. He was more than happy with the 302 feet field of view at 1,000 yards, making it easier to locate and track fast-moving animals.

He found the 11mm eye relief to be comfortable. To be fair, he did not wear eyeglasses. The soft, profiled eyecups provided a snug fit and blocked distracting side-light, enhancing his viewing experience.

Alex found the quick and simple focusing using the smooth center focusing wheel very handy. After all this was his first safari and first pair of binoculars. The short minimum close focusing distance of 11 feet was a bit of a disappointment to him, though.

Overall, Alex was thrilled with his new binoculars and really enjoyed using them to observe the wildlife on his first safari adventure. He really appreciated the binoculars’ value for money, as they offered impressive features at a fraction of the cost of top-end models.

Tough & Durable

As an experienced binocular user, I explained to Alex the importance of the size of compact binoculars, especially for traveling. I pointed out that the Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars’ foldable design made them easy to carry in a small pocket or luggage, and even on a walking safari.

I explained the importance of the smooth focus wheel/mechanism, which allows for swift and precise adjustments, and the need to keep the binoculars clean and dry to maintain their performance.

I advised him on the proper handling and care of his binoculars, emphasizing their toughness and good-looking casing that protects the interior optics. I suggested that he use the thin fixed neck/shoulder strap that comes with the binoculars to ensure they hang straight and action-ready.

I also highlighted the rubberized finish that prevents slippage, even when using with wet hands. I advised him to, however, be careful when using the binoculars in wet conditions.

I assured him that the Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars come with a great warranty, ensuring that any manufacturing defects or issues will be addressed promptly.

Bottom Line

The Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars are a compact and versatile option for both first timers and seasoned nature enthusiasts on a safari. With a 10x magnification and 26mm objective lens, they offer a clear and sharp image while being lightweight and compact. They are waterproof and fog-proof, making them suitable for different weather conditions. These binoculars are a good buy for those seeking a portable and high-quality option for wildlife observation, sports events, and travel.

Choosing the Perfect Pair of Binoculars: A Buyer’s Guide

When it comes to selecting the perfect pair of binoculars, there are a few key factors to consider. Firstly, determine the purpose for which you will be using them.

Are you an avid birdwatcher, a wildlife enthusiast, or perhaps a keen traveler? This will help determine the appropriate magnification and objective lens size for your needs.

Secondly, consider the binoculars’ weight and size, as you’ll want something comfortable to carry if you are constantly on the move. Weight is also important if you need to hold the binoculars for extended periods such as in wildlife research.

Additionally, it’s important to assess the optical quality, such as lens coatings and prism type, for optimal clarity and brightness. Lastly, don’t forget to set a budget and compare different models within your price range.

Whenever possible, try to test the binoculars on your shortlist before making a purchase. Make sure they feel comfortable in your hands and provide a clear and sharp image. Read reliable reviews on sites like Binocular Buzz.

Here are a few things to check out before selecting the perfect binoculars to suit your needs and enhance your outdoor experiences!

  • Magnification power: Check the binoculars for their magnification power, which indicates how much closer the objects will appear. For a safari, birdwatching or wildlife viewing 8x and 10x are good options
  • Lens diameter: The lens diameter determines the amount of light entering the binoculars, affecting the brightness and clarity of the image. While larger optical lens diameter makes the binoculars more suitable for low light conditions such as dawn and dusk. The Steiner Safari UltraSharp comes in two configurations; 10×26 and 10×42
  • Field of view: Consider the field of view, which is the width of the area visible through the binoculars. A wider field of view allows you to observe a larger area without having to move the binoculars around too much
  • Optics quality: Steiner is known for its high-quality optics. Look for binoculars with multi-coated lenses to ensure maximum light transmission, image sharpness, and contrast. This feature will greatly enhance your viewing experience
  • Focus system: Check the focus system of the binoculars. Some models have a central focus wheel, while others offer individual eyepiece focus. Choose the one that suits your preferences and needs
  • Compact and lightweight: One of the great advantages of the Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars is their compact and lightweight design. Ensure that the binoculars are ergonomically designed and easy to carry around, making them ideal for travel and outdoor activities
  • Durability and waterproofing: These binoculars are designed to withstand rugged use and adverse weather conditions. Look for features like rugged rubber armoring for a firm grip and waterproofing to protect the binoculars from moisture
  • Eye relief and comfortable viewing: If you wear glasses, consider the eye relief, which is the distance between the eyepiece and your eye. Look for binoculars with longer eye relief. Eye glass wearers should look for binoculars with an eye relief of 17-20mm to ensure a comfortable viewing experience
  • Accessories: Check if the binoculars come with any additional accessories such as a carrying case, neck strap, lens cleaning cloth, or lens covers. These extras can be quite useful and convenient

Make your safari a memorable experience with the Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×26 Binoculars – lightweight, compact, and designed for exceptional outdoor performance. Explore the great outdoors with clarity and precision.
